It snowed last night. We got about 5" of super-heavy white stuff. I watched the man on the news warn everyone that this was truly Heart Attack Snow as he shoveled a bit of it on a scale. It read 20lbs.
Yikes.
I think I'll wait until later to shovel.
Every time I shovel the driveway, I go back to when I was a kid and my parents made me shovel.
Luckily, our driveway wasn't too big. It was barely one car width across and maybe 2.5 cars long. And there was normally one car in the drive, so there wasn't too much to shovel. Until you got to the bottom, that is.
Of course there was all the stuff the snow plow had pushed off the roads that needed to be moved. That was bad enough. But, the main problem was all the ice that had accumulated under the snow. Our driveway was on a slope and the bottom collected tons of water. I vividly remember taking the shovel and hacking at the thick ice. Sometimes, I'd use the metal garden shovel to break thru it. It was a lot of work and it took a really long time to finish.
And never once did my parents come out to help.
They were in the warm house, drinking coffee or watching tv. Or, for all I know, they could've been looking out the window, laughing their butts off thinking:
Aaaaah. THIS is one of the perks of having children. Free labor! Makes all those sleepless nights worth it. Sure looks cold out there. Sucker.
And, you better believe that when Connor & Sasha are old enough to shovel snow safely and properly, I'll be sending them out to do the driveway. Unfortunately for them, I'm pretty sure our drive will be at least double the size of the driveway I had to clear when I was a kid. But, there are two of them, so it shouldn't be too bad. (insert evil laugh here.)
I'm sure I'll be watching out the window, in the warm house, drinking my coffee thinking:
Sure looks cold out there. Suckers.
But, I'll be sure to at least have hot chocolate waiting for them when they're finished.
